DALLAS – Two pedestrians were killed after being hit by a drunk driver on Friday, November 13.
Around 7:15pm, Kevin Christmas, 28, ran a red light at the intersection of Moody Street and Harry Hines Boulevard, colliding with a Nissan Frontier that had the green light. The impact caused Christman’s car to run up on the sidewalk, crashing into two pedestrians.
Cedric Davis, 26, and Lauren Davis, 26, were taken to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. Cedric died Friday evening and Lauren died as a result of her injuries on Saturday, November 14.
Christman was taken to Dallas County Jail with a bail set at $100,000. He’s being charged with separate counts of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault, although the assault charge could change in light of Lauren’s death.
What happened to Cedric Davis and Lauren Davis is not only devastating, but it’s also entirely preventable. In the United States, 28 people die each day as a result of drunk driving. That’s over 10,000 people who needlessly die each year from something that could have been prevented. If you decide to go out, have a designated driver to make sure you get home safely. Call a local taxi, utilize Lyft or Uber to take you home. A small fee from a car-sharing service is a far greater investment than willingly endangering someone’s life or spending time in jail for intoxication manslaughter.
