PLANO – Two teenagers were involved in a fiery crash at an intersection on July 27, 2015.
David Tilley, Plano’s police spokesperson, reported that Alger Ben Baker III, 18, and Daniel Payton Mushock, 18, were in a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe when the SUV crashed into a traffic signal pole around 2am Sunday morning. The witness to the accident and a friend to the boys, Yoel Gebremichael, was able to get the passenger, Mushock, out of the vehicle and into safety before the Tahoe was engulfed in flames. The driver, Baker, was killed.
The single-car crash resulted when the SUV suddenly veered off the road, but it’s unknown if alcohol was a factor. Police state that the boys weren’t wearing seatbelts, a report that Gebremichael detests, explaining that he struggled with the belts when assisting the victims.
Mushock suffered from a severe leg injury and remains hospitalized; he’s expected to survive his injuries.
Baker was slated to go to Baylor in the fall.
