NEW BRAUNFELS – A recent Canyon high-school graduate was killed in a fiery car crash south of Canyon Lake on Sunday, September 6.
Police report that a GMC 2500 truck driving the wrong way hit five vehicles that were heading south on FM 306 around 12:45am. One of the cars, driven by 18-year-old Brianna Rodriguez, burst into flames. The passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Angelina Camacho, was able to get out of the car. Rodriguez did not.
The two girls were driving home from a concert at the Whitewater Ampitheater when the crash occurred. The driver of the truck, 30-year-old Dean Mathews, and Camacho were airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio, both in critical condition. The other ten victims of the crash refused medical treatment. Mathews hasn’t been charged with a crime and the collision remains under investigation.
It’s speculated that Mathews was under the influence, but that has yet to be confirmed by authorities.
