BASTROP – Two people were killed after being hit by a drunk driver on October 23.
A Chevy Avalanche was headed south on FM 812 when the driver, 25-year-old Jamie DeLeon-Rodriguez, veered into the opposing lane, striking a motorcycle driving north. The motorcyclists, a 51-year-old man from Del Valle and a 39-year-old woman from Cottonwood Shores, died at the scene.
DeLeon-Rodriguez was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge after the collision and is expected to make a full recover. At the hospital, DeLeon-Rodriguez said that he had a passenger in the car, but didn’t know his name. The passenger hasn’t been found and police ask to be alerted if anyone enters a hospital looking like they’ve been in a crash.
DeLeon-Rodriguez faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
Weather was not deemed as a factor in the crash.
